MapPrint - Automated Map Production Utility
The MapPrint program is developed for the forestry profession to provide an automated / assisted means to create hardcopy maps and / or quickly set up the MapInfo system with data for specific user requirements. The program offers batch production capabilities and also has the ability to link to and report data from the MS-Access based Forest Projection System, developed by Forest Biometrics, Saint Regis, MT (other inventory systems to be added soon). MapPrint provides for flexible definitions of an unlimited number of user defined Map Types. Automated land base indexing is performed at program startup enabling the program to continually provide accurate section based indexing. Routines are also provided to report harvest unit details together with hard copy maps and to create Stand Treatment maps with various user selected fields. The ability to create treatment regions is also provided. A Program Settings routine is offered allowing users to initialize the MapPrint program with the specific data in use at your organization.
The MapPrint program offers several functions, some of which are related to the maintenance of Map Types (how maps appear), Map Templates (how maps are presented on paper), and Stand Treatment Styles (how Stand Treatments, such as planting, thinning, fertilization, etc. appear). Other routines are provided to produce the hard copy maps. As mentioned, the program offers virtually unlimited flexibility in the definition of types, templates, and styles. All printing routines support batch processing.
Below is a brief summary of the printing related functions of the MapPrint program.
Map Creator -
The MapCreator function is the primary routine to create either hardcopy maps or set up the map window as desired. This option offers a flexible and comprehensive dialog allowing the user to select Map Types or map layers, define a focus stand or section, select a desired scale and format for the Map Window or a specific printer layout template. Timber Inventory Maps -
The Timber Inventory Maps option allows the user to create maps and browsers detailing various user selected data fields related to the FPS based Stand table or MapInfo Based Harvest Unit table. Fields to report are selected by the user. All maps are generated at a 1" = 1000' scale and maps/reports can be formatted for the screen or printer. User defined and maintained Map Types and Templates are employed to offer increased flexibility on the appearance of the final maps. Data is reported by All report years or a selected Report Year. Stand Treatment Maps -
The Stand Treatment Maps function is provided to allow the user to generate hardcopy, stand treatment maps as created by the Create Treatment Region process (provided with MapPrint) and maintained in the Treatment MapInfo table. The function presents the user with ALL treatment regions which are Non-completed. The user may select any or all of the uncompleted treatments. Results may be presented at the treatment record level or section level. All maps are generated at a 1" = 1000' scale and maps can be formatted for the screen or printer. Special Treatment Map Types and Templates are employed to offer increased flexibility on the appearance of the final maps. Indexes are dynamically created to assure the only valid records are presented in the Stand Treatment Maps dialog. A Treatment legend is also created on the fly at the users discretion.
